Part memoir, part pilgrimage and physical journey, My Wild Northumbria sets out to explore the familiar and unfamiliar parts of old Northumbria, from the Scottish Borders to the Humber and beyond, following a personal 'mindmap' of this natural kingdom. It describes the landscapes and wildlife along the way and is inspired throughout by the prehistory and history that still runs like a thread across the north east. From moor to bog, forest to coast, mountain and  hill and urban green space and from the head to the heart to the feet of this ancient land, this is a personal insight into 'wild' Northumbria today.
